Spring Hope Area Chamber of Commerce
About Our Town...

Spring Hope has a population of nearly 1,400 with many being fourth or fifth generation
residents.  New residents are relocating here attracted by the friendly small town
atmosphere, as well as, the convenience of being near Rocky Mount and Raleigh, the
State capitol.

Historical culture abounds with buildings carefully preserved and clustered around the old
railroad depot.  Styles that include Greek Revival, Carpenter Gothic, and Cottage Victorian
are seen throughout downtown, as well as, the residential district.  Two dozen homes
withing this district have historical status and are part of the Spring Hope Historical
District which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The oldest church in
town is the Shocco African-American Church built 1870 and is a standing landmark.
Located on West Main Street, the Spring Hope Historical Museum is open on Sundays
with walking tours at various times throughout the year.

Spring Hope was incorporated as a township in 1889.  It was the lumber industry and a
rail line that built Spring Hope, as well as, farming and agriculture.  The town has had its
notable leaders over the years including: Claude C. Abernathy was 1941 Speaker of the
House in the State General Assembly and Capt. Allen Barbee who served the town as
councilman and mayor for eighteen years and later served in the House of
Representatives in the North Carolina State Assembly for 26 years until 1987.

Our downtown boasts a variety of specialty shops including antiques, designer fashions,
beauty shops, car parts stores, hardware,  garden supplies, dry cleaner, dog grooming,
mechanics, banks, restaurants, insurance and attorney offices.  There are also funeral
homes, movie rentals, tanning, a florist and even a ceramics studio.

Just a little up the street you will find  grocery stores, a drug store, medical facilities, variety
stores, a dentist, and more restaurants.  Gas stations, car repair, inspection stations, as
well as, engineers, foresters, and accountants are part of our economic fabric.  Also, two
day care facilities, local used car dealers, storage rental facilities, and much more.
Minutes from downtown are two of the area's finest public golf courses.

Spring Hope is home to an Elementary School with the Middle School and High School
